Refund policy
RETURN AND EXCHANGE POLICY
Time limit and general conditions
You have 14 days from the invoice date to return a product.
- Still sealed: any product returned in its original packaging, unopened and still sealed, will be refunded to the original payment method.
- Opened or unsealed: no refund will be issued. Only an exchange or a store credit may be offered, under the conditions of this policy. This condition does not limit the remedies available for a defective product (see the Warranty page).
To be accepted, a return must meet the following conditions:
- New products must be in their original condition, in the unopened, still-sealed packaging.
- The return must include the complete original packaging and all of its contents: accessories, manuals, software, and any gift or code provided with the purchase.
- The product must be accompanied by the original invoice.
Non-returnable products
- Software (antivirus programs, operating systems, Microsoft Office, downloads and product keys): non-returnable, due to copyright and licensing.
- Gift cards and prepaid cards.
- Service, delivery and installation fees.
- Clearance or final-sale products, where indicated.
Headphones, drives and printers
Headphones, hard drives and SSDs, and printers are exchangeable only if defective, during the applicable warranty period (see the Warranty page).
Products sold as a bundle
A product sold as part of a bundle must be returned with all items in the bundle. Partial bundle returns are not accepted. A defective item in a bundle will be exchanged for an identical product.
Parcel damaged in transit
Inspect your parcel before acknowledging receipt. If a product arrives damaged:
- Report it to HM Tech within 5 business days of delivery;
- Provide photos of the packaging and of the product;
- Keep all packaging materials, as they are required for the claim with the carrier.
Online order shipping
Online orders are shipped within 1 to 2 business days of payment confirmation. If this timeframe cannot be met, for example if an item is out of stock, HM Tech will promptly contact the customer to let them know and discuss the available options.
Shipments are made, in most cases, via UPS, Purolator or Canada Post, depending on the destination and the type of product.
Exceptions required by law
This policy does not limit any rights granted to you by law, including:
- Online purchases (Quebec and Ontario): if your order is not delivered within 30 days of the agreed date, you may cancel it and receive a full refund within 15 days, as provided by the Consumer Protection Act (Quebec) and the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 (Ontario).
- Defective products: the legal warranties described on the Warranty page apply in addition to this policy.
Certain conditions may apply. If you have any questions, please contact HM Tech.
WARRANTY
1. HM Tech warranty (retailer warranty)
In addition to the manufacturer's warranty, HM Tech provides the following warranty, starting on the invoice date:
- New computers (desktops and laptops): 1 year
- Used or refurbished laptops and desktop computers: 3 months
- All other products, new or used: 30 days
During the HM Tech warranty period, a defective product will, at HM Tech's option, be repaired, replaced with an identical or equivalent product, or exchanged for a store credit.
Headphones, hard drives and SSDs, and printers are exchangeable only if defective, during the applicable warranty period above.
The HM Tech warranty does not cover: physical or liquid damage, misuse, normal wear and tear, software problems and viruses, or products that have been modified or used for cryptocurrency mining. Proof of purchase (invoice) is required for any claim.
2. Manufacturer's warranty
Most products are also covered by the manufacturer's warranty, whose duration and conditions vary by brand. After the HM Tech warranty expires, please contact the manufacturer for instructions.
3. Customers in Quebec — legal warranties
The warranties above are in addition to the legal warranties provided by Quebec's Consumer Protection Act, which apply automatically and cannot be excluded.
Legal warranty of good functioning (in force since October 5, 2026): the following new goods, sold in Quebec, are covered against malfunctions, with free repair (parts and labour included):
- Laptop and desktop computers, tablets, cell phones and video game consoles: 3 years from delivery;
- Televisions: 4 years from delivery.
The law also provides a general legal warranty: a product must be fit for the use for which it is intended and have a reasonable lifespan, taking into account its price and the conditions of use.
4. Customers in Ontario
Ontario has no equivalent to Quebec's legal warranty of good functioning. Products purchased in Ontario are covered by the HM Tech warranty (section 1) and the manufacturer's warranty, in addition to the implied conditions under Ontario's Sale of Goods Act (merchantable quality and fitness for purpose) and the cancellation rights provided by the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 for online purchases.
